6 Year Old Dies After Being Left In Extremely Hot Daycare Van For Over Six Hours (News)

DALLAS - The family of a Dallas toddler found dead in a day care van Thursday wants charges brought against the driver and monitor who allegedly left him in there.

The van belonging to HH Banks Day Care Center stopped to pick up children at Dunbar Elementary School in the 4200 block of Metropolitan Avenue in South Dallas just after 3 p.m. Another child found the body of 2-year-old Sir Anthony Smith.

Police said the boy had been in the hot van for more than six hours in 93 degree heat.

The Dallas County medical examiner determined he died accidentally by hyperthermia.

Teddy bears now mark the spot where the van was parked.

Family members described Sir Anthony as a little boy with a big smile. He was energetic, curious and a joy to be around, they said.

“I just want to say we lost someone very dear to us, someone special. They don’t know what they took from us, a special little boy. I’m very devastated,” said LaToya Gray, the boy’s cousin.

HH Banks Day Care voluntarily closed Friday.

Both the Dallas Police Department and Child Protective Service’s childcare licensing division are investigating the case.

So far no arrests have been made.
